Anvil Plateau

From Praemal

The Barony of Midwood is located halfway down the Prustan Peninsula, on the lower end of the Anvil Plateau, which rises 3,300 feet above sea level. It is an area shrouded with the dark Tulgey Wood, carved by the icy Moss River and broken by meadows of green sheep pastures and apple orchards surrounding the human settlements.

The Anvil Plateau isn't called that by most of those who care about such geographic features: The Grailwarden dwarves call it Moradin's Anvil, while the Green Mountain Kobolds refer to it as the Anvil of Gax.

It is a rainy and cold region in the spring and autumn and snowy – and typically cut off from the rest of the world – in winter. Summer features spectacular thunderstorms but otherwise pleasant weather in the breaks between rainstorms.

To the east are the lowlands. A steep pass, Hangman's Pass, winds its way down the edge of the plateau and the rocky hills, while the Moss River tumbles down beside it, forming unnavigable rapids before finally dropping hundreds of feet to the lowlands floor below and the village of Goblin Falls.

To the west, towering peaks loom, with Green Mountain forming a distinct spike as the foothills climb quickly up to an average height of 10,000 feet for the peaks. The tallest of the glacier-coated mountains, the Judge, is approximately 11,500 above sea level. Above Green Mountain, the trees are almost entirely conifers before stopping at the timberline, approximately 7,900 feet above sea level.

To the north, the plateau becomes more and more rugged, eventually merging with the rest of the mountain range.

To the south, the plateau begins to crumble, eventually turning into foothills leading down into the Duchy of Southerly and then haunted Kem approximately 100 miles away.
