Heliograph
From Praemal
Once one of the proudest achievements of Grailwarden technology, the heliograph network is a series of manned towers stretching across the Prustan Peninsula from Grail Keep to Tarsis. The communication network uses a coded series of flashes of light to spell out messages.
During the day, the system relies on the sun and mirrors. At night, powerful lamps do the work of the sun.
Even before the invasion of the Eastern Hordes, most of the communications network had fallen into disrepair or had been the subject of attacks by humanoid raiders. Today, only four cities -- Grail Keep, Tarsis, Vidor and Istoma -- are on the network, which can deliver a message hundreds of miles an hour across a good portion of the continent.
Imperial business moves across the network for free, and private citizens can also send messages for a (significant) fee.
