The Ninefold Dragon is the creator of the dragon race and retains the neutrality and balance that none of his children has ever been able to maintain. He prefers to stay out of conflicts except when dragons as a whole are threatened, but he is served by several other dragon gods who serve as his messenger or agents.

Worshippers of any other dragon god, except perhaps worshippers of Bahamut who view the Platinum Dragon as an angel serving Lothian, pay Io at least some homage. Io, his few clerics and his worshippers tend to be introspective and thoughtful. Non-evil kobolds often worship Io.

Io is Neutral and his domains are Dragon, Knowledge, Magic, Strength, Travel and Wealth. (The Dragon and Wealth domains are found in the Draconomicon.) His favored weapon is the scimitar or claw and his symbol is a multicolored metallic disk.
