Mocharum
From Praemal
Mocharum the Soul Forger created the race of dwarves at his forge, and is the head of their pantheon, acknowledged even by those who do not worship him directly. His worship is especially popular among the Grailwarden dwarves.
He is a patron of smiths, dwarven leaders and soldiers. He seeks to forever improve and protect the dwarven race and has advised many dwarven heroes throughout their history. But he also believes that a weapon must be tempered in flame and suffer the blows of his hammer before it attains its greatest potential, and will sometimes turn a seemingly deaf ear to his worshippers, leaving them to their struggles as a necessary part of them living up to their full potential. Temples of Mocharum are built around a forge, and some of the greatest smiths in the world serve in his temples. (His temples also typically have iron statues of gorgons, which are sacred to the god.)
Priests of Mocharum officially welcome dwarven babies into the world, acknowledging Mocharum's part in forging a new soul in a ceremony held at the temple forge.
Mocharum is the archetypal moody dwarf, given to huge laughter, boisterous love, terrifying rages and long periods of brooding melancholy. When the dark moods overtake him, Mocharum will put down his hammer and leave his forge and climb atop his snow-whipped mountain. There he sits, staring out over the world, until ice and snow covers him. Whereas other dwarf gods each embody a single aspect of the dwarven personality -- Hanseath the frenzy of dwarven passions, whether from rage or from drink, Yurabbos the grim, even morbid obsession with being true to one's word -- Mocharum possesses all the traits.
Mocharum is the brother of Morachon, whose priests typically serve in his temple's forges.
Like Lothian, Mocharum observes Theoday as a day of rest. Clerical magic other than healing and curing spells will not function from sunrise to Sunset on Theoday.
One of the gods of Praemal.
Mocharum is Lawful Good and his domains are Civilization, Good and Law. (The Civilization domain is found in the Ptolus campaign book.) His symbol is an anvil and his favored weapon is a warhammer.
Mocharum stands in for Moradin in official books. Spells, feats, magic items and prestige classes related to Moradin work for Mocharum as well. For more information on Moradin, see Races of Stone.
