Roebello "Scimitar" Kem ('Scim' to some) is a Maidensbridge-based no good scofflaw. He is the son of Rogren Wilde (nee Kem) and the brother of Renraw Kem, loathe as he is to admit both of those things. Unimaginably physically abused as a boy, he grew to be remarkably quick and agile in order to avoid his father. Indeed, he earned his nickname when, at the age of 11, he vaulted over a scarecrow for an audience, lopping off its head at the top of his arc. His young friends were amazed and remarked how like a blade he was, "how like a scimitar." They did not know he had scored the wooden neck ahead of time and concealed a dagger in his palm to make the cut.

Scim ran away from Kem House at 15 after a particularly cruel prank on his blind and ailing mother went horribly wrong. He had "borrowed" a dead hog from a cousin and convinced her Renraw was dead. She was late in pregnancy with a third child at the time, and when she laid hands on the animal, the fright induced an early labor.

Rogren took her into the woods and returned, several hours later, alone.

When young Roebello saw the look on his father's face, he knew he had no choice. He ran up to his room and gathered some things as quickly as he could, escaping before Rogren could kill him.

Many people, most especially Renraw Kem, blame Scim for his mother's death.

Scimitar Kem is a rogue and a thief, and it's only by the skin of his teeth he's avoided prosecution for anything serious thus far. He has a secret hideaway known only to his brother and his cousin, Rando Kem, whom he has taken an interest in raising since the death of the boy's parents. Rando is, notably, the only kin for which Scimitar has any use.

Shortly after the IA 721 Frost's Leaving festival, Scimitar was arrested for burglary of several homes in Maidensbridge after confessing under duress to Ragglus Chaplin and Emmerson Grant. He is currently a prisoner working the fields of Midwood Farm.
