The Town Where Heroes are Born
From Praemal
A song about Maidensbridge and the heroes that have been born there or who came to the Tulgey Wood and Green Mountain to prove their valor. More of a drinking song than a ballad, some bards sneer at it, but the song has proved popular, and it's known throughout the Prustan Peninsula and perhaps beyond.
It is a staple of the gnome bard Heda Littlelark.
Stanzas
There are dozens of stanzas to the song, meaning that typically only a bard sings (or remembers) all of the stanzas, but everyone else listening typically joins in for the chorus, which is always the same.
Among the subjects of the various stanzas are:
- The founding of the barony by Gideon Midwood
- The slaying of the river troll who committed the murders at The Maiden's Bridge
- The disappearance of Philologus Midwood
- The battle against the Black Reavers that took the life of Baroness Talitha Midwood
- The battle between Ward Bridger and Cerulean
- A stanza written by Heda Littlelark but removed at the request of Jack Sawyer
- Baron Nicodemus Midwood conceals Hangman's Pass from the Eastern Hordes with illusions and trickery, thus saving his barony from invasion
- The exorcism of Maidensbridge Abbey
- The rescue of the Kramer children from the trolls of Moss Pond
