Tulgey Wood
From Praemal
Once beyond the orchards of Maidensbridge and the farmland surrounding Middleborough and Foxton on Moss, the Tulgey Wood quickly becomes a very dense forest of ancient deciduous trees. Away from the Baron's Road, the woods teem with wildlife. In much of the wood, little sunlight reaches the forest floor, making areas far from civilization dangerous even in "broad daylight."
The Moss Pond and Skunkbottom Flats lay to the north of Maidensbridge in the wood.
Flora found in the wood include hemlock, cedar, white birch, ash, maple, hickory and tulip trees. Flowering and fruit-bearing shrubs are also common, including large swaths of rhododendron. More rarely, grigberry bushes can be found hidden below other shrubs amidst the ground cover.
Boar, both normal and dire, can be found here, as can wolves, deer and even elk. The Tulgey is also home to antlered rabbits known as hasenbock, which are considered a delicacy by both gnomes and dwarves. Small communities of fey, including the fairy fiddlers known as grigs, can also be found in the Tulgey.
Further from the settlements of the barony, the wood is home to a race of evil talking spiders. There are also rumors that a powerful rogue wolf lurks in the woods, but no hunter has tracked him and returned to tell the tale.
The Tulgey Barrow is the only known ruin of the Invisible Kingdom in the Tulgey, but no living person can honestly claim to have fully explored every one of the forest's depths.
