Yurabbos

From Praemal

The elderly white-haired goddess of oaths, sacrifice and unswerving devotion to a cause, Yurabbos is known as the Runecarver. Whenever a dwarf swears an oath, she carves it into the face of an impossibly tall cliff at the edge of the world.

She is said to have given the art of rune-carving, and thus written languages, to the dwarves, although other legends credit Locharit. Dwarves believe that the world was first created through description and that destruction of words damages -- or even destroys -- that which they describe. As a result, followers of Yurabbos believe the destruction of the written word is a sin. Paradoxically, they often favor the burning of books they find offensive, believing the destruction of the words describing something vile will damage or even destroy the hated thing described.

Dying dwarves have seen her walking among the dead and dying on the battlefield, offering them water from a silver pitcher. Her clerics do the same, ritually offering a drink of water to the wounded and dying.

Clerics of Yurabbos often serve as judges in dwarf society and officiate at dwarven weddings. Breaking of the marital vows is considered an insult to the clan which witnessed the marriage and a blasphemy in the eyes of Valkauna.

Like Mocharum, Yurabbos observes Theoday as a day of rest. Clerical magic other than healing and curing spells will not function from sunrise to Sunset on Theoday.

Her worship is especially popular among the dwarves of Clan Farrin.

One of the gods of Praemal.

Yurabbos is Lawful Neutral and her domains are Death, Law and Strength. Her favored weapon is the heavy flail and her symbol is a hand clutching a gemstone. Her clerics pray to receive spells from her at noon.

Yurabbos replaces Valkauna from the core setting, and any spells, feats, magic items or prestige classes relating to Valkauna also work for her. For more information on Valkauna, see Races of Stone.

Good clerics of Yurabbos often learn the Words of Creation feat from the Book of Exalted Deeds, while evil clerics of Yurabbos often learn the Dark Speech feat from the Book of Vile Darkness.
