A Sarcoidosis Christmas

Well, the past week made me think that maybe, maybe my symptoms from this flare-up were going to taper off without ever getting to the life-disrupting stage they got to last April. Inconvenient I can handle, have to work from home and sleep 18 hours a day, I cannot.

The respite was apparently a bluff, because this weekend, my symptoms came roaring in with a head of steam. My eyeballs are back to boiling, I have a persistent dry cough — the kittens in particular are upset by this, because they’re not sure what it means yet — and I’ve been having a lot of joint pain. I’m still not at the point where Jenn has to help me get up from a laying position and help me get my legs over the side of the bathtub to shower, but I’m now on that side of the bellcurve rather than the side of normalcy.

Ho, ho, ho.

For years, I had no idea my boy Jonah had siblings. The only family member he talked about was his father. (OK, he mentioned his mother, but not in the way he did his father.) On December 8, Jonah lost his dad. His memories and tribute to his father are worth a read.

The first birthday cake

Birthday cake

Every month, the Daily Press sends over a birthday cake on behalf of all of the birthday boys and girls of the month. It’s a ritual that makes a lot more sense at the Daily Press than it does at the Hesperia Star, which is a three-person operation, and thus unlikely to have 12 months worth of birthdays.

This month, though, we’ve got one. Just three years and 18 days to get my first novel published.

The most wonderful time of the year

Snow has settled on the mountains west of Hesperia, framing the Cajon Pass. This despite the snow-free mountains to the east of Hesperia, which are only a little shorter, relatively speaking. The snow on the western mountains — I can never remember which San ________ Mountains they are — will last until late spring. They were still on the mountaintops when I first began working at the Hesperia Star back in April 2004.

I’ll try and shoot some pictures of the mountains in the next few weeks. Maybe if we get lucky, we’ll have another perfect weekend of snow like we had last year.
