Supernova imminent

Eta Carinae is getting set to blow. And allegedly, it’ll be bright enough to see during the day.

The bad news? The constellation it’s in, Carina the Keel, is only visible in the southern hemisphere.

Clearly, it’s time to move.

  1. Imminent? Considering the distance, doesn’t the fact that we’re seeing signs of a supernova now mean that it blew up 7500 years ago? :p

  2. Well, “imminent” in the stellar timescale.

In any case, those Aussie bastards are hoarding it all to themselves.

  3. Somehow, I think we might just be able to see it “live” in this whole InterWeb thing I keep hearing so much about…

  4. I want it in my sky, competing with the moon! I demand massive stellar destruction that’s convenient for my needs!
